Damien Rice has been working on the charities closest to his heart recently, including participating in a music album called Songs for Tibet, which was released in support of Tibet, Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyasto, and to promote the human rights situation in the country.
He has also assisted the Freedom Campaign, the Burma Campaign UK and the U.S. Campaign for Burma to free Burmese democracy movement leader Aung San Suu Kyi - she is currently being subjected to her third term of house arrest in Rangoon by the Burmese military. Rice and former girlfriend, Lisa Hannigan, released the track “Unplayed Piano” in her honor. It was performed at the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo.
While Rice has been relatively quiet lately, he has announced that he is working on a number of new recording projects - stay tuned for more information!

Irish folk singer, Damien Rice had a rough start in the music business. In 1991, he helped formed a band called Juniper. In 1998, Rice was disenchanted with the band, and left to pursue his solo career in Italy. The band regained composure, and has since changed their name to Bell X1.
Rice’s first album O was released in 2002. Since then, he has successfully released four more: B-Sides (2004), 9 (2006), Live at Fingerprints Warts & All (2007), and Live From the Union Chapel (2007).
His success continues today, as he is set to play in his native country of Ireland from June 13-15, and in Iceland in late July.
Summer tour dates:
June 13-15—Dublin, Ireland @ Royal Hosp Kilmainham.
July 11—Traena, Norway @ Traena Festival
July 26—Borgarfjordur, Iceland @ Eystri Festival
